Today I show you how to create a database with Cloud Backup enabled at the time of creating the instance. To store backups on the Oracle Cloud, we need to first create a storage container.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1974  alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_58657e609db0d.png?resize=296%2C51&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"51\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From the dashboard, choose Storage Cloud Service.\u00a0And note down the REST Endpoint URL.<\/p>\n<p id=\"xZauBBB\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1975  alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_586585f308d18.png?resize=203%2C30&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"203\" height=\"30\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The page also shows the data center. Mine is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">us2<\/span>. Go to the Storage Console to create a new storage container to store the backups. The storage console URL is\u00a0https:\/\/storageconsole.<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">us2<\/span>.oraclecloud.com where you need to substitute the correct data center instead of <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">us2<\/span>. <em>Thanks to<a href=\"https:\/\/community.oracle.com\/thread\/4003029\" target=\"_blank\"> Gokhan for the help<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Login prompt appears:<\/p>\n<p id=\"iTKzJAv\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1976  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5865873cea1bd.png?resize=434%2C324&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"434\" height=\"324\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Input the Storage Cloud REST Endpoint URL and your Cloud account username\/password to get to the Storage Console. Choose &#8220;Create Container&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"cUOJiZx\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1977  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5865885ba5da7.png?resize=478%2C182&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"478\" height=\"182\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For regular backups and file storage needs, choose Standard. For archive backups, choose Archive.\u00a0Archive Storage Service is ideally suited for infrequently accessed large-scale data sets.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1978  alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_586589884ea60.png?resize=347%2C216&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"347\" height=\"216\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I created two containers. When using these containers for backup or for storage, Oracle DBaaS expects a URL that includes the domain name and container name. The format of \u00a0the URL is https:\/\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&lt;identity-domain&gt;<\/span>.storage.oraclecloud.com\/v1\/Storage-<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&lt;identity-domain&gt;<\/span>\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&lt;backup-container&gt;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If\u00a0the backup container is in the same identify domain as your database, then the URL may be shortened to Storage-<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&lt;identity-domain&gt;<\/span>\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&lt;backup-container&gt;\u00a0<\/span><em>Thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/btspendo\" target=\"_blank\">Scott Spendolini <\/a>for this info<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, to Cloud Database console to create an instance. Everything is pretty similar to the <a href=\"https:\/\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/2016\/1782\" target=\"_blank\">first Instance I created<\/a>, except for the backup configuration.<\/p>\n<p id=\"KJpvYUq\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1981  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5865a26b596e2.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Backup destination is &#8220;Both Cloud Storage and Local Storage&#8221;. The Cloud Storage Container is the REST URL for my Storage Cloud + Container Name. If you check on the &#8220;Create Cloud Storage Container&#8221;, you can specify the name of a non-existing storage container. I provided the name of an existing container (Backup001) and my domain name is usatomtrial. The Complete URL is\u00a0https:\/\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">usatomtrial<\/span>.storage.oraclecloud.com\/v1\/Storage-<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">usatomtrial<\/span>\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Backup001<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>After about a day of running database, I can see using RMAN that the backups are happening successfully.<\/p>\n<p id=\"pnhwsPn\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1982 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5865ab351cc8b.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here are the default RMAN configurations.<\/p>\n<p id=\"iJbullZ\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1984 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5865aba2dc62b.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Notice<br \/>\nCONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE &#8216;SBT_TAPE&#8217; MAXPIECESIZE 2 G PARMS &#8216;SBT_LIBRARY=libopc.so, ENV=(OPC_PFILE=\/u01\/ app\/oracle\/product\/12.2.0\/dbhome_1\/dbs\/opcDBBKCL1.ora)&#8217;;<br \/>\nThe backups are scheduled through root cron. Database backup is scheduled once a day, and archive log backups are done every 30 minutes. You may adjust the frequency\u00a0if needed.<\/p>\n<p id=\"NKmNHXT\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1985 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5865adeb99e76.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Though backups are scheduled, an\u00a0on-demand backup can be performed from the Database Cloud Console.<\/p>\n<p id=\"rAEmiMw\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1986 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5865b57a15a1e.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You may also initiate a recovery from the Database Cloud Console.<\/p>\n<p id=\"WTFfHSY\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1987 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5865b5f42e8cf.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The options are to recover using the latest backup (full + archivelog backups available), or specified datetime,\u00a0or specified SCN.<\/p>\n<p id=\"nLMovVz\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1989 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5865eb5f1e5f0.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click Recover, and hopefully, you will have a recovered database without DBA intervention.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>12 Days of #Cloud: Day 10 In a previous post, I talked about enabling backups on a #DBaaS instance where backups were disabled when the instance was created.
