Using SQL*Net<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>By default, the Oracle DBaaS Cloud Service blocks access to 1521 port used by SQL*Net. You have to open the port before you can connect using SQL Developer.<\/p>\n<p>Log in to the Oracle Database Cloud Service and click on the service name to see the details. Note down the Public IP address and the Connect String.<\/p>\n<p id=\"xFADjoR\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1809 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5850df263fa92.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click on the Database Cloud Service menu and choose &#8220;Access Rules&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p id=\"htMqFWG\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1810 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5850dfae63346.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enable the &#8220;ora_p2_dblistener&#8221; access rule, by clicking the menu under Actions.<\/p>\n<p>Now, you can use SQL Developer from your desktop to connect to the Cloud Database as you would connect to any on-premise database. Use the Public IP address as the hostname and the service name in the connect string.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yrNaYoM\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1812 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5850e08d8a5eb.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>2. Using SSH<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This method is a bit more secure. Let&#8217;s turn off the 1521 port to make sure our connection using SSH works indeed. Confirm SSH is enabled.<\/p>\n<p id=\"YhblEsv\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1813 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5850e10805704.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In SQL Developer menu, click on View &#8211;&gt; SSH. Then right click and choose &#8220;Create New SSH Host&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p id=\"CCFMlSX\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1814 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5850e14c48076.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Provide the Cloud Database Service Public IP address and the SSH key file. Enable port forwarding on port 1521.<\/p>\n<p>Oops, I chose a wrong key file. Instead of the private key, selected the public key file. Let me fix by editing the SSH host entry.<\/p>\n<p id=\"UMkRVOM\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1815 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5850e1d5e47d1.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now choose &#8220;New Connection&#8221; in SQL Developer, and configure a connection using connection type SSH. You still have to enter the service name of the cloud database.<\/p>\n<p id=\"qCzvaZb\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1816 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5850e21152d51.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you click Test button, \u00a0you will be asked the SSH key passphrase.<\/p>\n<p id=\"lBmaHDY\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1817 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bijoos.com\/oraclenotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5850e25f599b3.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And, that&#8217;s it.
