I accidently came to your site when I was browsing and ..I must tell you...it's really useful site..well..I want to ask one typical question...what exactly is the work profile for ORACLE DBA? what exactly he is supposed to do? Greetings Bijoo: An outstanding job. Unfortunately I just came about visiting your site for the first time. It can be used as a quick reference by any level dba while at work looking for the forgotten commands or tips. I have two quick suggestions. 1. Add more Unix scripts for automating jobs such as backup, tuning and checking the health of the database through cron for example. 2. Include a chatline to your site so the users can get instant help onlie if required. Overall, I believe you have done a fantastic job. Cheers Kianoosh

I want to add up few tips of making jobs faster. If you know that you are going to insert several thousands of records in a table, in the code, drop all the existing index on the table, load the data, recreate the index and analyze the table. It will improve the performance significantly

Sir can I request you for a solution?? I want to divide a table among users so that the inserted records of a perticular user can be accessed to that user only? please help me out.

I am totally new to IT world. Currently, I am pursing a career in management information systems. I am going to graduate with B.S(MIS). Since, I have six more months to graduate, I am looking forward to do Oracle. I am not sure how to start? I am not planning to do oracle in a computer institute. I want to do a self study. Your site is excellent. I have a question : 1. Can I export/Import an Oracle D/B or Table from Windows OS to Unix OS ,without any errors. 2. In my app I can insert rows into oracle DB on WinNT only, but this data has to be actually stored on Oracle DB on Unix.How it can be possible ?

I just purchased the OCP SQL and PL/SQL guide that you co-authored. I've noticed a few errors within the first 2 chapters I've read. 1. Question 15 of the assessment test on page xxxii. None of the choices are correct because they do not specify the procedure name only the package name. 2. Chapter 1, Question 8 on page 58 has an incorrect answer. It is the answer to Question 9 which in turn has the wrong answer listed. 3. Chapter 2, page 73, SUBSTR procedure has been incorrectly described. Counting is backwards if "i" is negative not "j". Result is null if "j" is negative not "i". "j" does not default to 1. The entire string from position "i" is selected if "j" is not specified. "i" = 0 or 1 gives the same result, the string starts from the first character.
